A Cape institution, produced for more than half a century. Ensuring the blend is greater than the sum of its parts is the final challenge for any winemaker, and a fine example of the winemaker’s skill in the cellar is the estate’s iconic blend, Alto Rouge. Since 1922, when it was first produced on Alto and exported to Europe, Alto Rouge has become one of South Africa’s renowned wines. Aged in French and American oak for 18 months before blending, Alto Rouge is a carefully chosen combination of five cultivars: a blend of Cabernet Franc, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Fresh red fruit flavours on the palate, backed-up by soft, elegant tannins. Long balanced finish. A stylish princely wine with excellent aging potential.
Food Pairing
Perfect on its own or with roast chicken, grilled beef, duck and even a selection of preserves and matured cheeses.
