Tim Atkin SA Report: 93 Points - Shiraz 2016
4.5 Stars: 2020 Platter Wine Guide - Shiraz 2016
The 2016 Eagles’ Nest Shiraz is a bright ruby colour. Perfume and floral aromas combine harmoniously with red cherry and spice on the nose. These flavours gracefully carry through to a savoury, spicy pallet, with aromas of star anees and cloves. These flavours are complimented by pure, clean red fruit flavours. Soft, well integrated tannins coat the pallet, leading to a distinct fresh finish. A truly great wine from maturing vineyards, this wine will age gracefully for 20 years from vintage
Food Pairing
The Eagles‘ Nest Shiraz is an excellent companion for grilled beef and lamb meat. This noble varietal is also wonderful in combination with poignant dishes with plenty of black pepper. Try it with black olives, too!
Grape
The grape variety of the Eagles‘ Nest Shiraz is one of the most important red varieties worldwide. In France, it is known under the name Syrah and delivers full-bodied and poignant red wines with a long storability. Poignant aromas of black fruits and pepper are typical for a French Shiraz. In South Africa, Shiraz stands for fruity wines with a soft intensity. Developed in oak barrels, this delicious red wine creates smoky aromas and a long storability.
Ageing
The Eagles‘ Nest Shiraz matured in French oak for several months through which it received its poignant aromas. Gourmets can serve the delicious red varietal right away yet the noble bottle will keep its aromas during some years in the cellar, too.
