Platter Review 2021: 5 *
The Thelema Mountain Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon is among the top rated Cabernet Sauvignons each year. This is a sophisticated wine with aromas of pencil shavings, ripe blackcurrant and dark chocolate. It is extremely dry, yet the palate shows fruity sweetness. It has a pleasant and lengthy finish. Complex and stylish, with aromas of ripe blackcurrant, dark chocolate. This wine is bone dry, yet exhibits a lovely sweet fruit character on the palate, with a lovely long finish.
Food Pairing
A perfect accompaniment to grilled beef, especially with a Béarnaise sauce and rocket salad. Already drinking well, and will develop further with age
The Estate
After falling in love with the wines of Puligny-Montrachet, former accountant Gyles Webb packed away his adding machine in Durban and moved the family to Stellenbosch. Converting a dilapidated fruit farm into vineyards, the pioneering producer quickly garnered recognition and accolades for his minimal interference winemaking philosophy and his pure and unmanipulated benchmark bottlings. In 2002, Webb expanded his operation to the cool climate coastal region of Elgin where the winery produces its Sutherland line of wines.
