The Rupert & Rothschild Classique enchants with its look alone. A powerful dark red presents itself to the connoisseur, in young years a slightly violet colour can be detected at the rim. The beautiful smell of cranberries flows into the nose, the aroma of raspberry dominates the bouquet. On the palate, this fruity impression is confirmed, underlines by earthy and mineral tones. The lingering aftertaste with nuances of cinnamon and walnut spoils the tongue long after the last taste.

Food Pairing
Dark meat as well as spicy pasta dishes are highly recommended

Grape
The winemakers used the typical Red wine blend-Varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Cabernet Sauvignon produced the most premium wines in the world and is regarded to be very strong in its aromas and tannins. Merlot ensures that the red is smooth enough to enjoy. Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot round this blend off.

The Estate
At the foot of the spectacular Simonsberg mountain in the Franschhoek Valley lies the historic French Huguenot farm Fredericksburg, established in 1690 and now home to Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons. It was in this valley over 300 years ago that the early French Huguenots first discovered a terroir similar to that of certain winegrowing regions in France. Hence their decision to settle and cultivate vineyards here.
The Rupert & Rothschild partnership was formed in 1997 by the late Dr Anton Rupert of South Africa and the late Baron Edmond de Rothschild of France. Their vision and guiding principles were carried forward by their sons, the late Anthonij Rupert and Baron Benjamin de Rothschild. Today the Rupert family and Baron Benjamin de Rothschild share this prestigious partnership in wine production.

Ageing

Matured for 17 months in 225 litre and 300 litre French oak barrels. The wine has an ageing potential of at least 6 years from vintage. 

Alcohol: 13.5% vol
