Beautifully ripe and fresh black and red fruits on the nose accompanied by some aromatic spice – black pepper and cardamom – with some dust and warm earth undertones. On the palate, the fruit is persistent and abundant. Lovely concentration without being overly “heavy”. The fine-grained tannin keeps building in the mouth and with the balanced acid provides a classy framework for the pure red fruit to express itself. A beautiful wine.
Hand picked from 15 to 25-year-old dryland vines on Swartland Schist and Shale soils. Harvesting took place from middle February to end of February. 100% destemmed and naturally fermented in open top fermenters. Elevage took place in 500L French oak puncheons for 12 months.
Living in Kommetjie and sourcing the majority of her fruit from the coastal areas of Elim, Sondagskloof, Swartland and Darling, Trizanne Barnard is never far away from the ocean. Trizanne Signature Wines has been producing varied wines of great quality in the coastal town of Noordhoek since 2008. While winemaker Trizanne Barnard uses grapes grown in the dry, warm summers of the Swartland to produce concentrated red wines. Sourcing and selecting vineyard parcels from these contrasting regions, and pairing them with the most suitable varieties have resulted in Trizanne Signature Wines’ four very distinct wines – an embodiment of a winemaking philosophy that is built on diversity and a search for unique perspectives.
