This highly celebrated, multi-award winning Chardonnay from Paul Cluver is a wonderful amalgamation of creamy textures, wooded undertones, fresh natural acidity and alluring fruit-filled aromas. Its complex nose bursts forth with rich buttery tones of brioche and vanilla, offset my zippy tangerine and citrus blossom highlights. Along with juicy notes of melon and almond flakes, the wine displays exceptional complexity on the palate.

Food pairing
Fish, poultry, pork and game bird dishes work well with this wine. It works particularly well with creamy pastas and salmon dishes. The good acidity and balance between wood and fruit keeps the wine from being overly rich and consequently great without food too. Mussel soup is a perfect match.

 

The Estate

Paul Cluver was the first to establish a vineyard and wine cellar in the scenic Elgin Valley in 1896. The estate remains in the family today and continues making a number of labels. The wine business forms part of larger holistic farming business called ‘De Rust Estate'. In addition to the vineyards and cellar, there are apple and pear orchards, a Hereford stud and eco-tourism activities, including amphitheatre concerts, on the farm. This estate forms part of the UNESCO world heritage site, the Kogelberg Biosphere. Half of the estate has been set aside for conservation into perpetuity.
