Bright, deep plum red. Vibrant, youthful appearance. An explosion of fruit and perfume. There are blackcurrants and raspberry notes intermingled with rose petal and jasmine flavours. Underlying layers of cherry and violet are strengthened by more classical licorice, thyme, forest floor aromas. Offerings of great opulence, balanced perfectly with a natural acidity that is the backbone to this age worthy wine. Once in the mouth, classical aromas spread, showing pencil shavings and earthy undertones with a more prominent concentration of sweet cherry and blackcurrant. Vanilla, mocha and some oak hover in the background.

2010 was another great vintage, and in line with the Estate’s philosophy behind its flagship Bordeaux blend, Morgenster Estate Reserve 2010 reflects its exceptional terroir in the best possible blend from a great harvest. The wine appears under a slightly amended version of its iconic label for the first time.  As usual blending was done in consultation with Pierre Lurton of Château Chevel Blanc and cellar master Henry Kotzé is more than happy with the result: “This is Morgenster Reserve, so expect nothing less than amazing. These wines are crafted from the Schapenberg mountainsides to create memories from now until 20 years in the future”, he says.

Food Pairing
Most bold Bordeaux blends pair well with something hearty. Big flavours abound and team well with a prime piece of beef, lamb, venison or duck. It is also a wine to sip on its own to enjoy uncovering the secrets of its complexity.

A wine with great depth and complexity which will outlast 20 years.
The Grape
48% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 7% Petit Verdot

The Estate
Morgenster Wine & Olive Estate in Somerset West, 35 minutes from Cape Town, is at the gateway to the Western Cape wine-growing region. It is a thriving olive and wine farm dating back to 1711, producing internationally acclaimed Bordeaux-style wines and extra virgin olive oil of astounding quality. The Morning Star within a scallop shell as depicted on the front gable of Morgenster's beautiful manor house, the private home of owner Giulio Bertrand, is the Estate's signature and features on the labels of its fine wines and olive products.
