92 Points - Prescient Chardonnay Report, SA 2019
The Eikendal Chardonnay is a serious and elegantly crafted wine. On the nose it has subtle oak aromas, and prominent lemon, honeysuckle and pear flavours, with lovely, crisp mineral notes. The fruit flavours follow through on to the palate, with a rich and generous citrus finish. The Chardonnay has a great mouth feel, and long, lingering aftertaste. The fine complexity added by oak maturation has created a wine of distinction. The Chardonnay 2018 has notes of orange peel and perfume with a freshness, and tightness on the palate. Small complexities with all its secrets still close to its chest.
Food Pairing
Enjoy with lightly grilled salmon, roasted fowl or a creamy curry.
The Estate
At Eikendal they truly believe that good grapes make for a good wine, and more and more energy goes into our vineyards, with assistant winemaker and farm manager Edward Jonsson at the helm. While some of our vineyards are now in their 30’s and producing stellar wines, they also believe that constantly evaluation vineyard quality will help them identify blocks that need to be replaced and when they do, they only use the best plant material available on the market.
