The iconic Left Bank-based blend, De Toren Fusion V is meticulously crafted from Bordeaux’s ‘Noble Five’ varietals and, with its complex flavours of dark sour cherry, a spiciness of tobacco, and a hint of aniseed, it offers a stylish departure for sophisticated oenophilic tastes. This is a stunning expression of a superb vintage as well as terroir. Soft as spun silk, this is a wine that will only improve with age.
Named for the ‘fusing’ together of Bordeaux’s five famous varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Malbec), De Toren Fusion V celebrated its maiden vintage in 1999, at the same time marking the De Toren Private Cellar’s much anticipated first release.
Born of vineyards that are high in gravel content and benefit from prolonged exposure to the afternoon sun – conditions, in other words, that favour the cultivation of Cabernet Sauvignon – it is this intensely hued, robust flavoured varietal that, at 50 to 60%, forms the backbone of the formidable final blend.
For optimum enjoyment, decant at least one hour before consumption. It is recommended to serve this wine at optimal temperature (15 – 18 degrees Celcius).
Cabernet Sauvignon 53% Malbec 13% Cabernet Franc 12% Merlot 17%

Food Paring
With nuanced and complexed flavours, our renowned De Toren Fusion V wine pairs exceptionally well with perfectly tender grilled or roast lamb, with garlic, rosemary and a hint of honey lemon.
The Estate
De Toren is a small boutique South African winery that has propelled itself into the front ranks of South African wine producer in an absurdly short period of time. Proprietors Emil and Sonette den Dulk, escapees from the Johannesburg business world, "stumbled upon this little piece of heaven" on the Polkadraai Hills overlooking False Bay, in 1991.
They conducted extensive research before planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot and using as many as 13 different clones. A state-of-the-art gravity driven winery was built and the name De Toren (tower in Dutch), alludes to the way in which De Toren claims to be the only winery which follows a 100% gravity fed vinification process. De Toren is committed to sustainable farm practices.
